The days the island changes rhythm: what closes, what you notice, and when.
Nyepi 2027, Monday 8 March
For 24 hours, from 6AM to 6AM the next morning, the island stops and everyone, visitors included, stays inside their accommodation. In 2026 the airport closed for the day too.
The exact rules for the year, for example whether mobile data is switched off, are announced about a month before Nyepi. We add them here as soon as they are.
On every Balinese holy day, expect temple ceremonies and offerings, and check opening times before you go. On the days in the provincial circular for the year, Hindu public servants also have the day off, so some government offices are closed or quiet.

Full moon and new moon
Purnama (full moon) and Tilem (new moon) are ceremony days too, with offerings at temples across the island. On Bali they follow their own calendar rules, not the astronomical moon, so we only list them from the official calendar for the year. They are not on this page yet, and neither are Tumpek, Melasti and, for 2027, Siwaratri: those follow when the official Hindu calendar for the year is in.
Where these dates come from
Dates marked as expected follow the fixed 210-day cycle, or fall right before or after Nyepi, and will be confirmed when the official circular for that year is published. Updated Wednesday 7 October.
